Riddhi Runs Her Race

Everyone here is in a race, a race to grab better opportunities and head towards a better start. The Sheridan Student Union’s Board of Director election serves as a great chance to build your path. In the beginning, I was feeling a bit new as everything turned out to be online and honestly, I had never thought of online campaigning or meetings. I was in a state of mind where everything was vague and so confusing. I was not sure whether I wanted to participate or not in the election. The feelings I had were overwhelming when discovering the process but, the spirit of pursuing new career options and willingness to learn new things helped me to keep going through the entire election process.       

The SSU team was always a great support. The video campaigns and templates for social media promotion were a great help. They used various platforms like Tik Tok, Instagram, etc. for campaigning which was quite fun. Then comes the time where you have to wait and let your work pay off. Yes, it is the voting period where you have done your part asking students to vote and waiting for the results. The curiosity to know whom the students want to be represented by at the Board or to know if you are winning or not brings butterflies to your stomach. But trust me it is always ok to be a bit nervous as trying new things requires great courage.

Then the result day comes in. Whether you will or lose it is the journey that you enjoyed and made some new friends. Even after the final result, SSU helps each elected candidate with full training that gives them an outline of their role as SSU Board of Directors and the duties they are supposed to perform.
