FAQs

Here’s a guide to filling out your nominations package:

  • As elected student leaders, the SSU Board Directors is a group of 12 students ( 4 per campus) who bring your lived experiences, challenges, and ideas to the governance table, helping shape the future direction of the SSU.

    The SSU Board of Directors drive the SSU’s strategic priorities, budget decisions, advocacy efforts, and long-term planning for our organization, Sheridan Student Union.

  • The Nomination Package is the best place to find important details and deadlines. Here are all the important dates you should keep in mind:

    • Nominations Open Monday, January 5th, 2026 at 9:00 AM EST

    • Nominations Close Monday, February 6th, 2026 at 11:59 PM EST

    • All Candidates Meeting: Wednesday, February 18th, 2026 at 5:00 pm EST

    • Campaigning Opens Monday, March 2nd, 2026 at 9:00 am EST

    • Campaigning Closes Friday, March 13th,2026 at 4:00 pm EST

    • Voting Opens: Monday, March 16th, 2026 at 9:00 am EST

    • Voting Closes: Friday, March 20th, 2026 at 3:00 pm EST

  • Any full-time student who is:

    • A fee-paying Sheridan student and stay enrolled for your entire term.

    • 18 years or older when your term starts ( the Board of Director term starts May 2026

    • Be in good standing with Sheridan College and the SSU

    • Have a 2.5 GPA or higher in the semester before your term.

    • Not closely related (within second-degree family) to anyone already on the Board.

    • Not employeed by the SSU in any other role during your term (May 2026 - April 2027), and if you currently work for SSU, you must resign or take a leave of absence when confirmed as a candidate.

  • Yes! You can also become a Director as a new (first year) student!* If you met the eligiblity requirements, and can comfortable assume you are in good academic standing, are encouraged to nominate themselves.

    *A new student is assumed to be in Good Standing and will not possess a Cumulative GPA, therefore, this will not be a requirement for your nomination.

 

Nomination questions

  • Anyone interested in joining the Board of Directors and eligible to join can nominate yourself for the position during nomination period by completing the nomination form.

    Nomination forms will be available on the ssuelections.ca/ homepage during nominations period.

    If you are interested in joining the Board of Directors, but it’s not currently nominations period, join our mailing list to be notified on when to join.

  • Your CRO, Angela, is available to help answer any questions you may have about SSU elections or your nominations package.

  • There’s plenty of ways to make your mark! If you are not eligible to join the Board, here are a few ways to get involved:

    Attend Board Meetings and share your feedback with the team directly.

    ✔ Tell a classmate or friend you think would be great for the role to nominate themselves and be their peer support.

    Start or join a club at Sheridan that advocates for student needs, community and safe spaces.
