Navish jindal: Davis candidate

Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity

Meet Navish Jindal, a Software Development and Network Engineering student at Davis Campus! A determined leader who is passionate about promoting Financial Support.

  • Daichi Sawamura from Haikyuu, inspires me to lead by example and be always kind as a leader.

  • I think the most daunting thing for students is to travel, and if we provide more travel options to students, that could resolve it.

  • I would say the lack of networking opportunities compared to other campuses and the lack of opportunities compared to the Trafalgar campus fro example.

What are some of the student issues that you would like to bring to the Board table?

Why is Financial support the area YOU ARE MOST PASSIOnate ABOUt?

This struggle is most evident in my own involvement with the Sheridan community. Currently, I serve as a Student Advisory Board Member for Sheridan Edge and compete as an athlete for the Sheridan Cricket team. These are roles I am deeply passionate about, as they allow me to mentor student entrepreneurs and represent our college spirit. However, it is crucial to recognize that these are unpaid, voluntary commitments. As an international student, dedicating hours to board meetings or cricket practice is a significant financial sacrifice because every hour I spend volunteering is an hour I cannot spend working a paid job to cover my tuition.

I often find it incredibly difficult to balance these unpaid leadership opportunities with the financial imperative to work. The "Whole Student Experience" that the SSU champions leadership, athletics, and community should not be a luxury accessible only to those who are financially secure. Currently, many students like myself are forced to limit our involvement in clubs and governance simply because we cannot afford the time away from our part-time jobs. If financial aid were more accessible, it would buy us the time to fully engage. It would mean that a student could choose to run a hackathon or captain a sports team without worrying that they are jeopardizing their ability to pay next fees.

If elected to the Board of Directors, I will advocate for a restructuring of awards to include more merit-based support and specific bursaries for technical students. I want to ensure that financial aid acts as an enabler, allowing students to shift their focus from working for survival to excelling.

“I want to make a mark on campus by creating opportunities for others.”

  • My name is Navish Jindal, and I am a Software Development and Network Engineering student maintaining a 3.78 GPA. My journey at Sheridan is defined by a deep commitment to the "Whole Student Experience," balancing academic rigor with active leadership and athletic representation. I believe a Director must be a bridge between the student body and the administration, a role I have prepared for through diverse involvement on campus.

Currently, I serve on the Student Advisory Board for Sheridan Edge. in this capacity, I collaborate with a diverse team to advise on programs that empower student entrepreneurs. This experience has honed my governance skills, teaching me how to listen to student feedback and translate it into actionable strategies that foster creativity and confidence. It has given me a frontline view of the challenges students face, directly aligning with the SSU’s mission to support access and accountability.

Beyond governance, I am an active athlete on the Sheridan Cricket team. Representing the Sheridan community in sports has been pivotal in shaping my understanding of student well being. Athletics provides a vital outlet for mental health and social connection, and my time on the pitch has taught me the value of discipline, team collaboration, and resilience. I am also an avid soccer enthusiast, which further connects me to the diverse recreational interests of our student body.

I am eager to bring this unique skillset to the Board of Directors.

  • Currently, the SSU is more focused on organizing more fun and inclusive events for all students, while I agree that these are essential. I would like the SSU to improve in helping the students’ financial needs by giving out some sort of scholarship or opportunity to excellent students based on merit, and also organize more networking events and Keynote speakers to encourage the next generation.

"student leadership SHOULD feel more natural and less daunting.” - Navish

As a reminder, you will need to vote for campus-specific representatives, but all Board discussions are passed when every Board member is involved. Take a look at all of your campus representatives, stop by their campaign booths, and make an informed decision on March 16 - March 20.
