Om Rana: Davis candidate

I may not control every situation, but I control my effort, attitude, and integrity.

Meet Om Rana, an Early Childhood Education student at Davis Campus! A resilient leader who is passionate about promoting Financial Support across campuses.

What are some of the student issues that you would like to bring to the Board table?

Why is financial support the area YOU ARE MOST PASSIOnate ABOUT?

My name is Om Rana, and as an Early Childhood Education student at the Davis Campus, I am running for the SSU Board because I live the "student struggle" every day. For international students, college is a high-stakes balancing act. We aren’t just students; we are managers of our own survival, juggling full-time classes and field placements with part-time jobs and the rising cost of living. I am passionate about Financial Support: Scholarships, Bursaries, and Awards because I believe your success should be defined by your hard work, not your bank account.

The Human Reality of the Balancing Act

Being an international student means every hour is accounted for. In my job at Lululemon, I’ve sharpened my organization and time management skills, but no amount of planning can fix the exhaustion of a late-night shift followed by an early morning exam. We often sacrifice sleep and mental health just to stay afloat.

I see financial support as a "Time Multiplier." A single bursary or award is a lifeline. It means working one less shift, which translates to five extra hours of sleep, more time to focus on my Field Placement at BrightPath, or the chance to actually participate in campus life. When we reduce financial stress, we give students the room to breathe, stay healthy, and truly excel in their studies.

My Vision for a Supportive Campus

My ECE studies have taught me that people thrive only when they feel secure and supported. I want to bring that heart to the SSU Board by being a voice for those who feel invisible in their struggle. If elected, I will focus on:

Breaking Down Barriers: Many students find the award process confusing. I will use my communication skills to demystify applications, making sure every international student knows how to access help before they hit a crisis point.

Advocating for Resilience: I want to push for awards that recognize the "whole student", those who show incredible grit by balancing work, life, and high academic standards.

Building Community Awareness: Using my community engagement background from the Assembly Hall Gallery, I will ensure that financial resources are promoted directly to students at the Davis Campus, where they are needed most.

My Promise

I am a reliable, friendly, and hardworking person who loves interacting with new people and hearing their stories. I want to be the bridge between your daily struggles and the leadership that can provide relief. By fighting for better financial support, we are investing in a healthier, more inclusive Sheridan. I am ready to work for you and ensure that your journey here is defined by your dreams, not your debts.

“I want to make a mark on campus by advocating for every student voice.”

Om’s leadership style:

As a leader, what is om more likely to do on the board?

"Student leadership SHOULD feel more empowering and less political.” - Om

As a reminder, you will need to vote for campus-specific representatives, but all Board discussions are passed when every Board member is involved. Take a look at all of your campus representatives, stop by their campaign booths, and make an informed decision on March 16 - March 20.
