Hillary Kamulegeya: HMC candidate

One small act of kindness goes a long way

Meet Hillary, an Architectural Technology student at HMC Campus! A friendly leader passionate about promoting Financial Support: Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards across all campuses.

  • The possibility of the positive impact I am able to create because I believe that’s the legacy of a great leader

  • Financial insecurity due to the OSAP adjustments.

  • Transportation.

What are some of the student issues that you would like to bring to the Board table?

Why is Financial support the area YOU ARE MOST passionate about?

Advocating for financial support is most important because I have a general interest in helping students, and, as someone who has been in a different country, I understand how financial support can impact a student's experience at school. Based on recent interactions with many students, I find that they struggle to manage finances at school for various reasons. Some find the tuition too high because their income is insufficient and they are unable to pay their school fees. A good example of this can be taken from the fact that there is a very big gap between the international students fees and domestic students. Some actually don’t have any source of income and need financial support to study. There are those who are unaware of the services the school offers that would really help them to save some money, as well as those who need some training on how to manage their funds. Some students are also unaware of external awards.

I find that, as students, we should worry less about our finances because, as studies get heavier, it can be overwhelming, with added stress about money. The fact as well that also good available scholarships and bursaries can also inspire students to work harder and perform better I hope to improve student lives by sharing more knowledge to students concerning financial support as well as representing them and forwarding their feedback and concerns to those above.

I know I can reach out to students to gather feedback and suggestions on their financial goals, concerns, and requests. I believe that the sooner the Sheridan Student Union can act on these, the better the student experience. Every student who goes or is planning to Sheridan has the potential to achieve greatness and Sheridan college has the resources to ignite the world with brighter visions, money shouldn’t stand in the way of a great future and better nation full of smart and bright minds that could have been nurtured from this institute. The more students succeed at Sheridan College, the safer we guarantee the future of our country, and the brighter Sheridan College stands out.

“I want to make a mark on campus by supporting my fellow students

  • I am in my second semester of architectural technology. I am part of the Sheridan Igniters Club, and I help with event planning and management help students learn more about the club. I am also a member of the Sheridan architectural club. I am enrolled in the Sheridan Edge virtual classroom and have also volunteered at one of their events, greeting guests, assisting with preparations, and maintaining a clean and organized environment. I am currently a peer mentor, and in this role, I have helped students in different ways. In the first week of this semester, winter 2026, I guided first-year students in navigating the campus, connecting them to available services, helping them access their schedules, and finding their classes. In the following weeks, I organized events that are engaging and relaxing for students, while also helping them learn more about the school in a more relaxed way. I also conducted a class visit, and here I presented to students on how to access campus services and also connect with peer mentors.

My involvement also includes the Student Advisory Board (SELF Committee) at Sheridan EDGE, where I contribute to initiatives that promote inclusivity. I also volunteer at events like International Education Week. Having previously navigated post-secondary life, I understand the hurdles students face during their transition. I value creating moments where peers feel confident, informed, and connected. For me, being part of Sheridan means helping build a community where every student feels welcomed, supported, and truly belongs.

  • Creating opportunities for more affordable services.

As a reminder, you will need to vote for campus specific representatives, but all Board discussions are passed when every Board member is involved. Take look at all of your campus reps, stop by their campaign booths and make an informed decision on March 16 - March 20.
