Gurshaan Singh Sidhu: Trafalgar candidate

We are shaped by what we repeatedly do

Meet Gurshaan Singh Sidhu, a Computer System Technology - Information Systems Engineering Program Student at Trafalgar Campus! An approachable leader who is passionate about promoting Health and Wellness across all campuses!

  • People who listen before they speak inspire me, because leadership starts with understanding

  • One of the most pressing issues students across all campuses and Ontario are facing is OSAP and financial uncertainty. Many students depend on OSAP to pay for tuition, housing, and daily expenses, but delays, changes, or unclear information can cause stress and anxiety. If elected, I would support clearer communication, better guidance, and stronger advocacy around financial aid so students feel informed and supported while completing their education.

  • Right now, I am still learning about the specific issues students at my campus are facing. i want to spend more time listening to students, understanding their experiences, and learning what matters most to them

What are some of the student issues that you would like to bring to the Board table?

wHY is Health and wellness the area you are most passionate about?

I am most passionate about Health and Wellness right now because it directly affects every aspect of the student experience. Many Sheridan students are navigating heavy academic workloads while also managing financial pressures, employment commitments, family responsibilities, and personal challenges. These combined demands can place significant strain on both mental and physical well-being, often impacting academic performance, motivation, and overall quality of life.

When students feel supported, safe, and aware of the wellness resources available to them, they are far better positioned to succeed academically and personally. Health and wellness should not be treated as optional or secondary to academic success; rather it is a foundational requirement for students to reach their full potential. Without adequate support systems in place, students may struggle in silence, delay seeking help, or disengage from their studies altogether. I believe the Sheridan Student Union plays a critical role in advocating for accessible, inclusive, and responsive wellness supports. This includes mental health resources, physical health initiatives, peer support, crisis response awareness, and programs that address stress management and burnout. Equally important is reducing stigma around mental health so that students feel comfortable seeking help without fear of judgment or negative consequences. Creating an environment where wellness conversations are normalized can make a meaningful difference in students’ willingness to access support. Health and wellness also extend beyond individual services. They are closely connected to campus culture, workload expectations, financial stress, and students’ sense of belonging. A holistic approach to wellness means recognizing the diverse needs of students from different cultural, socioeconomic, and personal backgrounds, and ensuring that supports are equitable and culturally responsive.

As a Board member, I am committed to supporting initiatives that prioritize student well-being, strengthen partnerships with campus services, and ensure that wellness remains a central focus in governance discussions. By investing in health and wellness, the Student Union helps create a campus environment where students feel valued, supported, and empowered to succeed both during their time at Sheridan and beyond.

“I want to make a mark on the campus by making students feel heard.”

  • I am a Computer Systems Technology student at Sheridan College and a Board of Directors member with a strong commitment to student advocacy, inclusive governance, and institutional accountability. Through my role on the Board, I have represented student interests while contributing to strategic discussions, policy review, and long-term decision-making. I approach this responsibility with respect for fiduciary duty, confidentiality, and collaboration, and I value working alongside senior leadership, faculty, and fellow governors to support Sheridan’s mission and future growth. Beyond governance, I have been actively involved on campus through student employment roles that place me in direct contact with students and staff on a daily basis. These experiences have strengthened my communication skills, cultural awareness, and ability to advocate effectively for diverse student needs. My involvement in the Sheridan community spans academic, professional, and governance spaces, allowing me to understand the student experience from multiple perspectives.I am a Computer Systems Technology student at Sheridan College and a Board of Directors member with a strong commitment to student advocacy, inclusive governance, and institutional accountability. As a reminder, you will need to vote for campus-specific representatives, but all Board discussions are passed when every Board member is involved. Take a look at all of your campus representatives, stop by their campaign booths, and make an informed decision on March 16 - March 20.
