My ideals, because I want to raise my voice, listen to others' ideas, and make important decisions.

The most pressing issue students across Ontario are facing is affordability. The rising cost of living and education is pushing many students into survival mode rather than allowing them to fully engage in their learning experience. As a Board member, I would prioritize advocacy, transparency, and support systems that make education more accessible and equitable for all students.

In my opinion, it is a well-being issue. Job, basic cost, career path, weather, etc., are some of the most important reasons that make people feel depressed and stressed, and increase the incidence of various diseases.
What are some of the student issues that you would like to bring to the Board table?
Why is Financial Support the area you are most passionate about?
As an international student, there are 2 things that are really important and attract me when applying to school. They are scholarships and the environment. So yes, money is always a big problem for everyone. With that in mind, I want to provide more information about scholarships, bursaries, and awards for future students, especially those in my home country, Vietnam.
With financial support, many families can reduce their financial burden, creating more opportunities for children to study in a new country. Besides that, many students balance tuition, rent, transportation, and daily living costs, and financial stress often becomes an invisible barrier to their well-being and academic performance. They can feel overwhelmed, skip classes, or even deal with mental issues when they can not handle all types of subsistence expenses, if they lack support. For me, financial support does not affect their mental health, but it also affects their quality of life.
When students receive timely financial assistance, it will become motivation to overcome financial difficulties at the beginning. This helps them focus on learning, on-campus activities, and hands-on experiences. Awards are also a great goal to help students try hard every day. Standing up to receive an award with prize money and lessons will be a valuable experience for them. As a Director, I want to ensure student voices are heard in financial decision-making and that resources are allocated transparently and responsibly to support those who need them most. By listening directly to students and bringing their concerns to the Board, I aim to provide solutions that are clearly impactful and practical for them. This is the responsibility I am ready to take on as a Director serving the Sheridan student community. It is also a good way to express fairness, show a respectful, diverse background in finance, and create greater motivation for international students. Therefore, I don't want anyone let financial burdens hinder their dreams.

Hi, my name is Nhat, a Vietnamese girl. My friends usually call me Iris, which is my English name. I am a responsible and friendly person. As an international student, studying abroad is a great opportunity to improve my skills and experience different cultures. In the first days I arrived in Canada, I didn't know how to set my schedule, spent a lot of time learning how to go to school by public transportation, and had other concerns. It was time that I received support from an educational consultant - Miss Hanh Nguyen, a Vietnamese stranger I met at school, and VSA Sheridan. I was really appreciative. For this reason, I decided to join VSA Sheridan as the Event Coordinator, with the main purpose of supporting Vietnamese students, creating engaging events for them, and sharing Vietnamese culture with foreign friends. I made a lot of new friends, learned from their experiences, shared my story at events, and felt happy when my sharing was helpful to them. Additionally, living in a culturally diverse environment, as I am at the moment, makes me understand the importance of personal voice and of respecting other perspectives. It is the reason I want to speak up not only for myself but also for all Sheridan students.

I believe the SSU should prioritize students' mental health and well-being.

As a reminder, you will need to vote for campus specific representatives, but all Board discussions are passed when every Board member is involved. Take look at all of your campus reps, stop by their campaign booths and make an informed decision on March 16 - March 20.
